Even with the still increasing popularity of breast augmentations, there still remains a vast number of myths that still needs dispelling, and a list of facts which remained to be unknown. So let me discuss the following myths and facts to help clear up the air, and to help you come up with an informed decision before going under the knife.
Fact #1 A breast augmentation is not a permanent fixture.
This is an important fact for most of you who are seriously considering breast augmentation surgery. Just remember this, nothing lasts forever, and breast implants are no exception. They are still subject to some wear and tear issues. So when you decide to have cosmetic breast surgery, also consider the possibility that you might need to have corrective procedures in the future. Some doctors even claim that if you had implants for ten years, it is highly likely that at least one of those has leaked already.
Fact #2 Scars can be strategically hidden.
Yes, incisions that will be made during the surgery are created in areas that will be less detectable. They are often done near the armpit or underneath the breast outline. So there is really no need to worry about those ugly scars forming. But also do not fail to mention to your surgeon if you are a keloid former.
Fact #3 Breast implants that are made out of other materials aside from silicone or saline is considered experimental.
You should be on alert when a surgeon offers you an implant that is filled with a different kind of fluid aside from the two commonly used materials, silicone and saline. All others that might be introduced would still be experimental, and will only make you to be a study subject. And if you want to avoid risking yourself with these unproven and unapproved implants, then by all means avoid it.
Fact #4 Breast augmentation surgery is not free of any potential side effects.
Any surgical procedure has a potential side effect. This is an expected outcome and a risk that each patient has to understand, especially when they opt to have cosmetic procedures done on them. However, you can minimize the risks by choosing and good reputable surgeon to take care of the job.
Myth #1 People can recognize if you have breast augmentations.
One surgeon once said that people should not compliment you on having a good procedure done, because a really good one would not make it obvious that you actually had something improved! My point is that when you have a breast surgery it does not always follow that people can recognize that you have fake breasts. A good surgeon would be able to fit you with a good one and can fashion it to look natural. So make sure that you find a skilled doctor, otherwise you just might prove this myth true by giving yourself a botched result.
Myth #2 Cup size is the most predictable or reliable ways of determining the breast size that you want.
When purchasing a bra, you might have observed that your cup size in one brand does not match the other. You might be 34 in one and then a 36 in another, this is because each brands have their own size charts which they follow. So when discussing with your surgeon, it is best that you don’t do so by cup size, because these ideas are relative. The surgeon will take you through more specific measurements along with demonstrations on how a certain implant size will fit with your existing tissues better. You can even bring a photo of the kind of result you want in order to give the surgeon the same idea as yours.
Myth #3 Implants that are placed underneath the muscle is the most preferable.
Although it is more preferable for some, this does not hold true for all cases. Certain factors such as the characteristic of your muscle and the size of your implant will also determine its appropriateness. There is a reason why there are several approaches introduced for the placement of the implants, and that is to give the surgeon options as to what fits the patient’s physique and anatomy best.
Myth #4 Breast augmentations are dangerous.
There are a lot people who really want to have the procedure done but are highly apprehensive because of this myth. This is even more aggravated with the current issues that have been linked with breast implants and some reported high rupture rates. But with a good clinic that is reputable for using only medical grade materials and highly trained surgeons there is no need to go far with the belief that it is dangerous. In fact the rate of breast augmentation surgeries is continuously increasing yearly, and it has shown a lot of successful results. Botched surgeries are only outcomes after choosing the wrong clinics and less experienced surgeons.
